Spring Woods was designed by architect C. H. Kiefner and built contractor Baxtor Construction Company, Inc. in 1961. This was under the leadership of then superintendent, Dr. H. M. Landrum for whom today's Landrum Middle School is named.

Spring Woods Middle School or SWMS excels in many areas. Recently the City of Houston recognized their after school program, Spring Woods After-School Program or SWAP, as a model for other schools by bringing visiting dignitaries from Hong Kong to view our model program.
